New laws for EVs to have Acoustic Vehicle Alerting Systems (AVAS) in Australia

In Australia, it is becoming mandatory for new EVs to make warning noises, or 'acoustic vehicle alerting system' (AVAS) as it's also known.

The goal of the Australian governments new legislation, is to protect pedestrians, cyclists and other vulnerable Australians, especially in car-parks, drive-ways, and other low-speed situations. The reason is that only about 20 percent of electric cars and hybrids fall under the existing 'quiet road transport vehicle' definition, and are fitted with AVAS.

The change to Australia Design Rules (ADR 113/00) will require all newly approved electric vehicles (and many hybrids) produced from November 1, 2025, to be fitted with an AVAS solution.

This is where Just Add Noise fits in... Vehicle suppliers as well as individuals, can purchase our ready-made AVAS solution, and retrofit our noise emitter to any vehicle (car, truck, bike or scooter). Our noise emitters come complete with a ready-made sound, or you can customise the sound to suit your vehicle type. Find out more about our EV noise emitters, and watch our demo video here.
